Feed Alameda

Feed Alameda pays restaurants, who have been among the hardest hit by the pandemic, to make hot and healthy meals for our unsheltered residents. After receiving more than $46,000 from a community GoFundMe and additional sponsorships from Alameda Rotary, Alameda Police Officers Association, Alameda Chamber of Commerce, and Alameda Firefighter's Local 689, the program is up and running, paying local restaurants to provide 90 meals per week to Alameda’s unsheltered individuals, women and children at Midway Shelter, residents of the FEMA trailers, and those who use the safe overnight parking areas at Alameda Point. Many thanks to the Alameda Point Collaborative for being the fiscal sponsor of Feed Alameda and to everyone who donated!!

Now a few weeks into the program, we realize there are more than 90 Alamedans who need our support. A new community fundraiser was launched, Feed More Alamedans, that will increase the number of meals to 120 per week. Please help us spread the word!

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Feed Alameda will help local restaurants generate income while providing Alameda's most vulnerable population with additional meals. The City is signing up local (non-chain or publicly traded) restaurants to prepare and deliver 90 hot meals to a designated location within the City of Alameda.

These meals must be hot, nutritious and low in sodium, with a fruit, vegetable and a main course. Meals must be made without trigger foods that can cause allergic reactions. Some of these trigger foods include fish, shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts. Meals must be individually packaged. Each meal package must include utensils and a napkin.

The City will pay $2,250 for 90 packaged and bagged meals ($25 per meal including tax, if any), including delivery to one designated site. Alameda restaurants are eligible to sign up to provide meals by filling out the provided form. Entries will be entered in a randomized lottery.

Weekly meal deliveries will start January 20, 2021 and end when funds are expended.
