Chief Justin Hearn was born and raised in the Bay Area and began his career working as a paramedic on an ambulance in San Jose. He was also a volunteer firefighter with the Milpitas Fire Department.  He was hired in Alameda in 2008 and worked as a firefighter/paramedic before he was promoted to Captain in 2015.  Justin has been trained in water rescue, rescue systems, tiller operations, mass terrorism, and also served on the wildland team.  Justin spent a significant portion of his career balancing and promoting collaboration between labor and management. In August 2020 Justin was promoted to Division Chief serving as the Fire Marshal overseeing the Fire Prevention Bureau.  Justin lives with his wife and kids where he enjoys spending time working on his rural property. He and his family tend to their animals and enjoy trips to the snow on his off-duty time.
