New Wireless Facilities Design Guidelines

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Sept. 26, 2018 approved a Declaratory Ruling and Third Report and Order setting standards for how state and local governments may regulate small cell wireless deployment in their local jurisdiction. The FCC ruling allows local governments to establish aesthetic guidelines and make them publicly available. The City of Alameda published design guidelines covering these wireless facilities. Schedule a Building Inspection

Please call (510) 747-6830 between 7:30 am - 8:30 am Monday through Thursday at least two business days in advance of the desired inspection date.   During the summer months, it is advisable to schedule inspections at least 10 days in advance due to the busy construction season.


Special Events Permit

Events play a vital role in building goodwill in our community, and engaging residents in meaningful activities. Depending on the nature of your event, you may need to obtain additional permits or approvals to ensure a well-planned, safe event. The page Special Events Permit outlines the types of special events that require permits.   Most special events in Alameda require a $1,500 deposit. Certain permits require insurance and liability coverage naming the City of Alameda as an additional insured.  Application packets for each permit type are included in the page.


About the Permit Center

The Permit Center is the central location for obtaining Building, Fire, Planning, Public Works, and Special Events permits.   Permit Center staff assists customers through the permitting process from initial questions and preapplication meetings to inspections and final certificate of occupancy.

City planners assist the City Council and Planning Board with managing growth and development of the city in an orderly manner.  Planners perform this role by reviewing developer applications and proposed development plans for compliance with the City's adopted policies and ordinances.  Planners are available in the Permit Center to provide public assistance on obtaining planning permits and entitlements. 

Planning

The Building Division reviews building permit applications for compliance with State and local building codes (structural, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, green building, and energy efficiency).  The Building Division also inspects construction projects after permits have been issued.  The actual handling of permit applications, plans, and fees is conducted in our Permit Center.

Building

Transportation planners work collaboratively with the community, City departments, and regional agencies on planning future projects and programs to help Alamedans get around quickly and safely.

Andrew has worked in Alameda on a variety of development, planning and transportation initiatives since 2002, including plans for Alameda Point, Alameda Landing, and the Northern Waterfront; and expansion of public transportation services funded by new development. Andrew has a master’s in City Planning from UC Berkeley and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
