Alameda community members voted on three different potential selections for ReadAlameda, the City's book club. The results are in, and we look forward to reading Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America, by Ibram X. Kendi, with you. Or you can read the YA remix of the book, Stamped: Racism, Antiracism, and You, by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi.

How do I get a copy?

The Alameda Free Library has several copies available. You can also find the title locally at Books Inc. If you are looking for an Audiobook, you can get a copy on Hoopla with your library card number, or on Audible or Kindle.

If you need financial assistance, the Friends of the Alameda Library have generously donated copies of both versions of the book. Please email Sarah Henry at shenry@alamedaca.org to arrange getting a copy.

What is the timeline for the book club?

This is a very popular selection and it might take time to get a copy. We plan to start talking about the book on social media and on this webpage on Monday, July 13. We'd love for you to start reading then, though we promise not to release any spoilers. A reading guide will be released in the coming weeks. We encourage you to talk with friends about the book as you are reading. We will schedule a Citywide Zoom Book Club the week of August 10, where we can discuss the title together as a community.
