The City of Alameda will host a public workshop focused on using public records to learn more about local government. Open Government Commissioner Rasheed Shabazz will host a workshop on learning more about local government through public records requests. Participants will learn about the origins and purpose of the California Public Records Act, the types of records covered, and how to make a request.
The event aligns with “Sunshine Week,” an annual celebration of access to public information and open government, March 14-20, 2021.
“Since the pandemic began impacting Alamedans a year ago, many have searched for ways to learn more about our community and positively affect change,” Commissioner Rasheed Shabazz said. “The Public Records Act is one way to learn more about the ‘people’s business’ and work towards solutions to improve Alameda.”
The Open Government Commission advises the City Council on ways to implement the Sunshine Ordinance, the city ordinance which codifies policies regarding the public’s participation in bodies like the City Council and boards and commissions.
