The Alameda Free Library’s 2022 Summer Reading Challenge: Read Beyond the Beaten Path starts June 1 and runs through July 31. Created to encourage reading as well as life-long learning, this nine-week program is open to everyone from birth to adult.
You can track your reading and activity completion online, enabling anyone to take part in the program from home, on vacation, from a mobile device, or by using the computers at the library. Or if you’d rather use a paper game board, all three library branches will have a supply of physical game boards available. Participants may register online at alamedafree.beanstack.org.
The library has a full schedule of special programs and events, allowing everyone to participate in fun reading and learning activities. The 2022 Summer Reading Challenge kickoff event will be held at the Main Library on Saturday, June 4, from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm and will include crafts for children, teens, and adults, a how-to session with Easy Street Cycling, and special performances by Sterling Johnson, the Bubblesmith. A library card is not needed to participate in the 2022 Summer Reading Challenge or any event the library hosts.
This free program is made possible through the generosity of the Friends of the Alameda Free Library. Alameda Free Library is located at 1550 Oak Street and is wheelchair accessible. The Main Library is served by AC Transit routes 21 and 51A. Bicycle parking racks are available at the library.
