Applications now open for Emergency Rental Assistance Program

Published on May 04, 2021

Alameda County is now accepting Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) applications

There is a NEW program to help tenants catch up on their rent or utility payments for which Alameda tenants and landlords may apply. The Alameda County Housing Secure Emergency Rental Assistance Program will administer funds to help income-eligible households pay rent and utilities (water, gas, electricity, and internet), both for past due and future payments. Funding is provided by the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021. Because this is a new source of funds, tenants who are behind on their rent are eligible to apply, regardless of whether they received or were declined by the City’s rent relief program.

Eligibility:

Alameda County tenants are eligible to apply if one or more individuals in the household meets all of the following:

  • Alameda County tenant, except for Oakland and Fremont*
  • Have qualified for unemployment benefits or experienced a reduction in household income, incurred significant costs, or experienced other financial hardship due to COVID–19
  • Demonstrate a risk of experiencing homelessness or housing instability, which may include past-due rent or utilities or unsafe or unhealthy living conditions
  • Have a household income that is not more than 80% of the area median income

* Oakland and Fremont operate their programs separately.

Tenants or landlords with eligible tenants may apply directly at: www.ac-housingsecure.org. Applications will be processed by a third party administrator.
