The National Weather Service Has Issued a Heat Advisory in Effect Now

A Heat Advisory is in place for September 9-10, 2026.

Here are some heat safety tips:

- Avoid outdoor activities, limit direct sun exposure
- Drink water
- Take breaks in the shade
- Make a plan to check on vulnerable people in your network at least twice daily through Thursday.
- Bring pets indoors.

Prepare to stay cool in your home:

- Gather fans and ice
- Cover your windows
- Plan where to go if your home gets too hot

The following cooling centers will be available:

Main Library, 1550 Oak Street, Alameda, CA 94501
Open 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM PDT Wednesday
(The Main Library itself will be closed 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM but the Stafford Room will remain available as the cooling center during that time.)
Open 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM PDT Thursday

Bay Farm Island Library, 3221 Mecartney Road, Alameda, CA 94501
Open 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM PDT

West End Library, 788 Santa Clara Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501
Open 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM PDT

Mastick Senior Center, 1155 Santa Clara Avenue, Alameda, CA 94501, Dining Rm #1
