Alameda County Partners with the City of Alameda to Provide Free, Drive‐Through COVID‐19 Testing  (PDF, 548KB)

CITY OF ALAMEDA, CA – The County of Alameda is partnering with the City of Alameda to bring pop‐up testing to the island’s residents and workers. Penumbra, Inc. a medical devices manufacturer headquartered in Alameda, has made their west side parking lot off Road A near 1401 Harbor Bay Pkwy available for this critical service.

The site will be open Wednesday, September 30 through Saturday, October 3. Drive‐through appointments can be made at https://ac.fulgentgenetics.com/appointment/screen/landing. You do not need a doctor’s note or insurance and you will not be asked about immigration status.

Like other Alameda County‐supported community testing sites, this pop‐up site will offer molecular (PCR) testing to detect if a person has an active COVID‐19 infection. At the time of testing, everyone will receive next steps on how to isolate and quarantine.

“Increasing testing is an invaluable means of slowing the spread of COVID‐19, and I am pleased that this partnership will expand capacity in the City of Alameda,” said Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan. “I urge all City and County residents to get tested regardless of age or health status in order to ensure the wellbeing and safety of our communities.”

The City of Alameda has 409 COVID‐19 cases and a case rate of 527.1 per 100,000 residents.

"I'm grateful to County and City staff, and especially to Penumbra who has graciously allowed their Harbor Bay Business Park campus to be used for this four‐day drive‐through testing. As we work to provide more opportunities for testing in Alameda, please help stop the spread of COVID‐19 by wearing your mask whenever you leave home, staying 6 feet away from anyone who doesn’t live with you, and washing your hands frequently."

Alameda County has partnered with Community Organized Relief Effort (CORE) and Fulgent Genetics to bring COVID‐19 testing to locations that are well‐positioned to reach disproportionately impacted communities or communities that are underserved by COVID‐19 testing.

CORE is a nonprofit organization co‐founded by Sean Penn and Ann Lee that is dedicated to saving lives and strengthening marginalized communities affected by or vulnerable to crisis. CORE has taken a leadership position in the COVID‐19 response to provide free testing for high‐risk individuals and vulnerable communities. The organization has administered over 1.4 million tests across dozens of test sites throughout the nation, with a focus on low‐income groups, communities of color, first responders and essential workers.

“We look forward to aiding Alameda County in their effort to make COVID‐19 testing more readily available for their residents,” said Brandon Perthuis, Chief Commercial Officer of Fulgent Genetics. “Alameda County will be leveraging Fulgent’s Community Testing Platform, which brings our gold‐standard RT‐PCR testing capabilities to drive‐through sites in a seamless and simplified manner. We are able to manage back‐end logistics of the site and deliver test results directly to patients within 24 hours of receipt of the sample to our lab.”

Nearly 4,400 tests of Alameda County residents are conducted daily, well past the goal of 3,100 tests per day. Additional free community testing sites are available in West Oakland, the Fruitvale, East Oakland, San Leandro, Hayward, Fremont, Livermore and Pleasanton.
