Robert Caruthers, Division Chief of Training

Chief Caruthers is currently assigned as the Division Chief of Training. This position oversees the Alameda Fire Department's Division of Training and Accredited Local Academy through State Fire Training.

Robert Caruthers has experience serving communities with his previous fire experience while also showing dedication to the Alameda Fire Department for over 15 years. He was hired in October 2010 with the Alameda Fire Department and has steadily progressed through the ranks, promoting to Apparatus Operator (2017), Fire Captain (2019), Battalion Chief in January 2025, and most recently achieved the rank of Division Chief in November 2025.

Throughout his career, Chief Caruthers has demonstrated a strong commitment to training and operational excellence. He is a Registered State Fire Instructor, served as the Technical Rescue Program Coordinator, and has been an active member of the Apparatus Committee. His operational experience includes roles as a fire and rescue boat operator, training captain, and tractor and tiller trainer. Outside of the department, Chief Caruthers enjoys spending time with his family and is especially involved in supporting his daughters’ sports teams.
