Sustainability and Resilience

Through adoption of its award-winning Climate Action and Resiliency Plan (CARP), Alameda has set an ambitious goal of reducing emissions by 50% below 2005 levels by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2045. The CARP charts a course to achieve this goal through equitable improvements to transportation, buildings, energy use, urban greening, and waste management.

• The Response of the Shallow Groundwater Layer and Contaminants to Sea Level Rise in Alameda (2020)

Alameda is preparing a comprehensive citywide Urban Forest Plan that will update the City’s existing street tree plan and expand the scope to include park trees, trees in easement areas, trees near power lines that are maintained by Alameda Municipal Power, and trees on private and other non-City of Alameda properties. Thus, Alameda’s 2010 Master Street Tree Plan will become the Urban Forest Plan.

Alameda's Climate Adaptation and Hazard Mitigation Plan:

• describes the natural and climate hazards that impact Alameda's people, buildings, businesses and assets;
• identifies our vulnerability to those hazards, and;
• describes actions to reduce our risk from these hazards.

The plan addresses the hazards of earthquakes, floods, sea level/groundwater rise, tsunamis, heat, smoke, PSPS outages, drought, and dam failure inundation.
