Elevation Certificates

An Elevation Certificate is a document prepared by a licensed land surveyor, engineer or architect which includes Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) information, such as the flood zone, flood elevations and details about the building. An Elevation Certificate demonstrates that a building's finished floor is above the base flood elevation.

The City uses Elevation Certificates to implement compliance with National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), our participation as a Class 8 community as part of the Community Rating System and the City's Floodplain Management Ordinance.

Flood insurance agents use Elevation Certificates to help determine policy rates. Having an Elevation Certificate may remove the requirement to have flood insurance if you have a federally backed mortgage. Your lender may still require flood insurance even if you have an Elevation Certificate.

The City does not prepare Elevation Certificates. Elevation Certificates can only be completed by a State licensed land surveyor, engineer or architect.
