On Thursday, August 6, 2020, APD responded to reports of shots fired in Lower Washington Park. After responding to the park, multiple officers conducted an area search in an attempt to locate a possible crime scene. Shortly after the initial report, APD was notified by a local hospital that a patient with a suspected gunshot wound was being treated at their facilities. As part of the investigation, additional officers responded to the hospital to gain further information from the victim. While at the hospital, officers confirmed that the individual was the victim of a shooting and determined the victim’s injuries were serious but non-life threatening.

As APD continued its investigation, officers located evidence that confirmed a shooting did occur in the park. At this time, APD is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying any involved parties or anyone who may have witnessed this crime. If you have any information regarding any activity that occurred in the area near the picnic tables, just behind the baseball field, in Lower Washington Park on Thursday, August 6, 2020, between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm, please contact Sgt. Kuboyama at 510-337-8538.

As we have continued to investigate this incident, we do not believe it is connected to the shooting that occurred on Friday, August 7, 2020.
