Armed Robbery: On 4/3 at 11:57 am, officers responded to the 700 block of Buena Vista Avenue for the report of an armed robbery. An individual entered a business, selected items, and exited the store without paying. When confronted by employees, the suspect brandished a knife. Responding officers located the individual and they were taken into custody. #24-02301
Assault with a Deadly Weapon: On 4/5 at 12:52 am, officers responded to the intersection of Clement Avenue and Everett Street for the report of an in-progress burglary. The victim reported they interrupted an individual attempting to break into their vehicle. The suspect fled in another vehicle, circled back, and discharged a firearm in the direction of the victim. There were no injuries reported. The investigation remains ongoing. #24-02336
Hit and Run Collision: On 4/7 at 12:44 pm, officers responded to the intersection of Broadway and Otis Drive for the report of a hit and run collision involving a person driving a vehicle and two pedestrians. The pedestrians were struck while in the crosswalk. The driver fled the scene. The pedestrians sustained minor injuries. The investigation remains ongoing. #24-02368
DUI / Vehicle and Pedestrian Collision: On 4/7 at 10:45 pm, officers responded to the intersection of Santa Clara Avenue and Park Street for the report of a collision between a person driving a vehicle and a pedestrian. The pedestrian was struck in the crosswalk as the motorist made a left turn. The driver was found to be driving under the influence and was taken into custody. #24-02372
Vehicle Fire: On 4/8 at 7:30 pm, officers responded to the Posey Tube for the report of a vehicle fire. Officers assisted with evacuations and traffic control during the incident. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. No victims were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Animal Bite: On 4/16 at 3:33 pm, the Alameda Fire Department responded to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Central Avenue to provide medical attention to two victims who had been mauled by a dog. Due to the dog’s aggression, paramedics were unable to reach the victims to render aid. AFD requested assistance from APD and Animal Control. APD staff encountered the dog roaming around the apartment complex’s property and requested residents and a neighboring school to shelter in place. Once the dog was secured, Animal Control transported the dog to the Animal Shelter. The two victims were transported to a local hospital. #24-02563
False Report of an Emergency: On 4/17 at 12:56 pm, APD personnel responded to a potential armed hostage situation at Encinal Jr. & Sr. High School. The school was placed on a lockdown and a search of the school was conducted. At approximately 2:15 pm, officers completed their search and determined no suspicious activities or individuals were present. Our preliminary investigations suggests this was likely a swatting incident. #24-02591
Traffic Enforcement: APD officers issued 230 traffic citations and 103 warnings.
