The country is seeing record high daily cases of COVID-19 and we will soon reach a lot of devastating milestones, as we near 500 COVID-19 cases in the City of Alameda, 25,000 cases in Alameda County, 1 million cases in the State of California, 10 million cases in the United States, and 50 million cases worldwide.

Tragically, we have had 15 COVID-19 related deaths in the City of Alameda, 471 deaths in Alameda County, 17,939 deaths in California, 236,856 deaths in the United States, and 1,248,150 deaths across the world.

We recently updated the City’s online COVID data dashboard to include the total number of tests administered to Alameda residents (36,034), the City’s test positivity rate (1.59%), and the City’s 7-day case rate (28) and 30-day case rate (61). We also display cumulative, monthly, and daily COVID-19 cases, and cumulative cases by age, ethnicity, and gender.

Alameda County also updated its COVID-19 data dashboard, including information about the State’s color-coded tier status. The County is currently in the Orange Tier (moderate transmission), however our reopening activities are largely restricted to the Red Tier.

The County recently reported that we are observing a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases in response to recent reopening and increased rates across the State, and no additional activities were allowed to reopen this week. Moving at a slower pace helps slow the spread of disease and avoid closures of any opened activities.

Masks are Required at All Playgrounds

people wearing masks

Alameda’s playgrounds have reopened, and per State health guidelines, masks worn over the mouth and nose are required for everyone over 2 years old. Here in Alameda, 10% of our COVID-19 cases have been under 18 years old and nearly half of our cases are under 40. Protect yourself and others, and don't visit a playground without a mask.

Additional playground guidelines include not using when different households are unable to maintain physical distance of 6 feet, not eating or drinking to ensure that face masks are worn at all times, washing or sanitizing hands before and after use, and limiting your visit to 30 minutes per day when others are present.

Expanded Hours for Alameda’s Library Takeout (Curbside Pickup) Service

To make library materials (books, DVDs, magazines, and more) accessible to community members who have returned to work or school, the Alameda Free Library is offering evening hours for its Library Takeout curbside pickup service. Starting Monday, November 9, you can pick up from 2-7pm in addition to Tuesday through Friday, from 12-5pm. You can place holds on the materials you want to check out online or by calling 510-747-7740 during the times listed above.
