Alameda Launches Application for “Alameda Strong” Rent Relief Grants

The City of Alameda, in collaboration with the West Alameda Business Association, Alameda Chamber of Commerce, and Downtown Alameda Business Association, established the Alameda Strong Relief Fund to help small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and residential renters in Alameda from the devastating impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Applications for residential rent relief grants are now open and close Thursday, September 10, at 11:59 pm. Applications for nonprofit grants will be announced in the near future.

More Information & How to Apply
The goal of the Alameda Strong grants are to support families and individuals who are suffering a temporary financial setback due to the COVID-19 public health emergency. The one-time grants are for up to $3,500 per household or one month’s rent, whichever is less. Funds may only be used for outstanding, unpaid rent. A household is any number of individuals that are tenants under the same lease or rental agreement.

A limited number of grants are available now. All applications will be processed in lottery order. Future rounds of grants may be announced as additional donations are received to the Alameda Strong Relief Fund.

Eligibility
Individuals and families are eligible to apply if:

  • Your primary residence is within the City of Alameda
  • You were current on rent due up to March 1, 2020
  • You have fallen behind on some portion of your rent payment since the Shelter-in-Place order was announced on March 16, 2020
  • You can demonstrate a COVID-19 impact on your ability to pay rent
