City of Alameda Launches COVID-19 Small Business Relief Grant Program

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a severe economic impact on many small businesses in Alameda. In order to support local businesses during this difficult time, the Alameda City Council approved a $600,000 COVID-19 Small Business Relief Grant Program at its April 21, 2020 meeting. The program will provide flexible grant funding to cover operating expenses, payroll, and other urgent expenses. Grant applications will be accepted from Monday, April 27 at 4:00 pm through Thursday, May 7, 2020 at 11:59 pm.

Program Description

The COVID-19 Small Business Relief Grant Program will provide grants of $7,500 to Alameda retailers, restaurants, and other small businesses. A total of 80 grants are available, with 13 of those grants dedicated to Alameda Point businesses. Awards will be announced by Thursday, May 21, 2020, and funds will be disbursed within 30 days of the award date.

Eligibility

In order to apply, businesses must:

  • Be physically located in the City of Alameda.
  • Have between 1 and 25 employees (with the exception of restaurants, which have no employee limit).
  • Have experienced a reduction in income of at least 20% due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Have a current City of Alameda Business License and have paid the FY 2019/2020 Business Improvement Area assessment if located in a Business Improvement Area.
