City nonprofits invited to apply for Alameda Strong relief grants

The City of Alameda established the Alameda Strong program to provide small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and residential renters in Alameda relief from the COVID-19 economic disaster. Applications for the nonprofit organization grants will be open from Thursday, August 5, at 4:00 pm. to Tuesday, September 14, at 11:59 pm. 

Program Details

Nonprofit organizations with a physical, nonresidential location in Alameda can receive a one-time grant of $5,000.   

Preference will be given to organizations that addressed needs in the community related to the pandemic. Applications will be reviewed and evaluated based on the eligibility requirements below. Awards for this round of funding will be disbursed within 30 days of the award date.   

Eligibility

The applicant must be a nonprofit organization with a maximum of 25 full-time equivalent employees at one location or fifty (50) or fewer full-time equivalent employees at two or more locations in total.

  • The organization must be physically located in Alameda. If you are a national organization, only the local chapter can apply and be eligible for the grant.
  • The organization must have been in operation in Alameda for no less than two (2) years.
  • The organization must demonstrate a minimum gross income of $10,000 for 2019.
  • The organization must be a 501(c)(3) or 501(c)(6) nonprofit agency.
  • The organization must demonstrate significant financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic by either:
    1. showing it has experienced a significant loss of 25% or more in gross income due to COVID-19; or
    2. demonstrating that its expenses have increased by 25% or more due to the pandemic.
  • The organization must provide a written response explaining its financial hardship related to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Only one application per organization will be allowed. Any and all duplicate applications will be disqualified.
  • The organization must have a current City of Alameda Business License and have paid the Business Improvement Area assessment if located in a Business Improvement Area.
  • Applications must be submitted through the City’s required online portal.
