The City of Alameda is committed to providing accessible programs, services, and facilities for people with disabilities and is developing an ADA Self Evaluation and Transition Plan to identify barriers to accessibility and have a prioritized plan to remedy those barriers. Gathering feedback from the community is an essential part of the plan development.

Please share your feedback on accessing public spaces and services by completing this online survey

If you would like the survey in any other format, please contact ADA Coordinator Erin Smith at esmith@alamedaca.gov or call 510-747-7938. The City is working with Bureau Veritas, a consulting firm with extensive experience in ADA-related projects, to perform the self-evaluation and draft the final ADA Transition Plan. A physical assessment of City sites (for example City buildings, libraries, parks) and the public right of way was done over the summer to identify physical barriers to accessibility. Bureau Veritas is currently reviewing City programs and services to ensure their accessibility.

The next step is to prepare the self-evaluation findings and recommendations and prioritize investments to improve accessibility. Public input – through the online survey and upcoming public meetings – will inform where resources are focused first.

“The City strives to have its facilities, programs, and services accessible to all members of the community,” stated Public Works Director Erin Smith. “While we are continuously working on improving accessibility, an updated Transition Plan will help us benchmark where we are now and develop a roadmap for where we can be in the future.”

A virtual community meeting to present the self-evaluation findings and solicit additional feedback will be hosted on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Click here for additional details about the ADA Plan.
