The City of Alameda is launching a major renovation project for the Civic Center Parking Structure at Oak and Central. This modernization effort is designed to significantly improve safety, accessibility, and overall usability for the community, while addressing long-standing maintenance needs.
Key Improvements & BenefitsThe multi-phase renovation will transform the facility with a focus on modern technology, security, and compliance. The planned upgrades include:
Construction Timeline and Public ImpactThe project is anticipated to be complete in March 2026. The parking garage will remain open throughout the entire construction period. Drivers should be prepared for intermittent impacts and follow all posted detours and on-site signage. During construction, permit holders are temporarily authorized to park anywhere in the facility without risk of receiving a citation.
The City will provide regular updates on the project’s progress on the dedicated webpage: https://www.alamedaca.gov/Departments/Public-Works-Department/City-Projects/Civic-Center-Parking-Structure-Renovation.
Special Holiday Parking Promotion
In support of local businesses this holiday season, the Civic Center Parking Garage will offer FREE PARKING on all Saturdays from November 29 through December 27. Residents and visitors are encouraged to shop and dine locally.
The City appreciates the community’s patience as these vital improvements are made. Because construction timelines can be affected by material availability and weather, some schedule adjustments may occur. Questions regarding the work may be directed to the project manager, Ricardo De La Torre, at rdelatorre@alamedaca.gov.
