Construction kicks-off at Dignity Village, Interim Supportive Housing

Dignity Village, a two story, 47 room Interim Supportive Housing project located in Alameda at 2350 Fifth Street will serve the homeless, chronically homeless, and homeless youth. Construction will begin this month, with each of the 168 square foot rooms including a private bathroom. The project will have community programming spaces, including a dining space, community garden, and courtyard, as well as meeting rooms, private offices for support services staff, and storage.

About City of Alameda Housing Programs: The City of Alameda (City) is the project’s sponsor. It has received $2,555,844 in operational funding and $9,225,536 for the development of the project from the State of California (State) through the Housing and Community Development Department (HCD), and $2,654,622 in capitalized operational reserves from Alameda County (County) Housing and Community Development Department with the support of Alameda County Supervisor Dave Brown. The City is also contributing $10,855,995 towards the development and operations of this project.

About DignityMoves: DignityMoves serves as the project development manager. It manages the architect, general contractor, and other project consultants toward the successful completion of the project within the strict timing guidelines of HCD. DignityMoves coordinates with the City to obtain all necessary permits and approvals to construct the project, as well as all other related parties including the local building, planning, and transportation department, fire department, community development department, Five Keys, and others to ensure the project is developed successfully.

About Five Keys: Five Keys will serve as the onsite social service provider and property manager. Five Keys received the capital portion of the funding from the State, which is being use for construction costs. The social services will include intensive case management, robust housing navigation and readiness services, good neighbor practices and resident education, community event planning, and property management inclusive of routine maintenance of the units, 24-hour a day, seven days a week, security, and janitorial services. Five Keys will operate the project using “Housing First” principals and coordinate with the City and the County to meet and maintain State occupancy requirements. Five Keys will manage all accounting and reporting of funds expended as required by the State, County, City, and other independent granting agencies.
