Water Rescue Temporarily Closed High Street Bridge
On Sunday, April 21, at 2:09 pm, Alameda Fire Department (AFD) and Alameda Police Department (APD) responded to a report of a person jumping/falling from the High Street Bridge into the water. The first arriving crew reported a person in the water south of the bridge. AFD rescue swimmers were immediately deployed and able to rescue the person in the water, who experienced non-life-threatening injuries. The person was then transported to a local hospital for further evaluation.
AFD responded with 3 engines, 2 ambulances, 1 truck, and 1 rescue boat. Other agencies assisting were APD, Oakland Fire Department, Oakland Police Department, Paramedics Plus, and the U.S. Coast Guard was notified.
At the time of the incident, the High Street Bridge was closed temporarily and an alert message was sent through AC Alert/Nixle, the system the City of Alameda uses to send emergency alerts and traffic advisories.
