Masks are required indoors in public places for all individuals, regardless of vaccination status, with limited exceptions, starting August 3, 2021, at 12:01 am.
Chief Luby has a 23-year career in the Fire Service that is hallmarked by leading continuous operational improvements and building solid relationships with inter-departmental stakeholders and external regional, state, and federal agencies. Chief Luby began his firefighting career with CalFire in 1997 as a Seasonal Firefighter and Paid Call Firefighter for the South Santa Clara County Fire District. In 1999 he joined the Oakland Fire Department as part of their first Firefighter/Paramedic recruit class and fulfilled every promoted rank within the organization prior to becoming Deputy Chief of Operations in 2018. As the Operations Chief, he oversaw the management of Field Operations, Training Division, Special Operations, Safety, and the departments FEMA Urban Search & Rescue Team (CA-TF4). He has served on both local and federal Incident Management Teams, traveling throughout California and the Nation to manage large-scale incidents. As part of CA-TF 4, Chief Luby supported and responded to some of the nation’s worst disasters. He has served on several Regional Boards and Joint Power Authorities within Alameda County. He brings to Alameda an unwavering passion for the Fire Service and customer service, along with a strong knowledge base of Emergency Medical Services, Wildland Fire Management, Incident Communications, Incident Management, Logistics, and Emergency Preparedness. Chief Luby is supported by his wife of 21 years and three daughters and resides in East Bay.
