How to Respond to Plan Check Comments

Below are instructions on how to resubmit plans if you received a Hold Notification indicating that your permit has received plan check comments. You may download the comment letters requesting additional information and/or corrections to your plans and you will need to resubmit a response to the plan check comments. Revisions to your project plans addressing the plan check comments are needed before the City can issue a permit. You may obtain a copy of the plan check comment letter via the ePermits Portal at https://aca-prod.accela.com/alameda.

From the Accela Citizen Access Portal:

  1. Click on Search Applications in the Building Tab (for Fire “F” Permits use Fire tab)
  2. Enter your Permit Number and click Search.
  3. Select your permit.
  4. Under the Record Info Tab, select Attachments.
  5. Click on the file names that are described as Hold Letters to download.

All reviewing departments must complete their review before you can resubmit plans to address the plan check comments. You should receive a Hold Notice email from your Permit Technician indicating that the round of plan review has been completed.

To resubmit, you must schedule an appointment with your Permit Technician to review your submittal package after you have uploaded it to Accela. The appointment may be scheduled as a virtual meeting online, via phone call, or in person at the Permit Center. If you don’t know the contact information of Permit Technician assigned to your permit, and you can request that information from the Permit Center at permits@alamedaca.gov. An appointment must be scheduled with your permit tech to review your resubmittal prior to acceptance.

Your resubmittal will need to provide a written response to each of the plan check comments received from each department in a formal Response letter. In addition, you will need to provide the updated plans and supporting documents required by the hold letter. Please note when responding to hold notices, resubmit complete sets electronically. The plan set and each supporting document should be its own PDF file (Plans is one PDF, Energy Cals own PDF, Structural Calcs is its own PDF, all photos should be combined into one PDF file, brochures combined into one PDF file). Do not upload pages individually. Plans will not be accepted if not in the correct format.

Please log into Accela Citizen Access and upload your response letter and updated documents. To upload your documents:

  1. Click the Record Info Tab, select Attachments.
  2. The Click the Add button at the bottom of the page.
  3. Follow the instructions to upload each document and be sure to select the Type of document and provide a Description.
  4. After you have completed uploading your documents, you must email your Permit Tech to schedule an appointment to review your submittal. If you don’t know the contact information of the Permit Technician that is assigned to your permit you can email permits@alamedaca.gov.
