City of Alameda Honors Local Heroes

Mayor Marilyn Ezzy Ashcraft and the City of Alameda Social Service Human Relations Board will honor the contributions of individuals, businesses, and nonprofits at the Eighth Annual Community Service Awards Ceremony, held virtually on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at 6:30 pm.

The event is open to the public via Zoom, but requires pre-registration here

The awards this year honor exceptional Alamedans who made tremendous contributions to our community in the last year, particularly in advancing racial justice and responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. The City received dozens of nominations for very qualified individuals and organizations and appreciate the dedication that so many people give to Alameda. The recipients of the 2021 Community Service Awards are:

  • Michael Yoshii — Jim Franz Lifetime Achievement Community Service Award
  • Barbara Price — Volunteer of the Year Community Service Award
  • Beth Aney — Individual Community Service Award
  • Alameda Police Reform Steering Committee — Group Community Service Award 
  • Alysse Castro — Nonprofit Board Member Community Service Award 
  • Alameda Family Services — Nonprofit Organization Community Service Award 
  • Dr. Asmita Dharia — Business Person Community Service Award 
  • Fireside Lounge — Business Community Service Award
  • Robert and Elaine Kiewlich— Youth Community Service Award 
  • Sonia Chen — Youth Community Service Award
  • Venecio Camarillo — Youth Community Service Award
