Park Expansion at McKay Avenue Crown Memorial State Beach
The Park District is planning for 3.89 acres of new parkland at Robert W. Crown Memorial State Beach, as well as street improvements along McKay Avenue, in the City of Alameda. The project, called the “McKay Master Plan,” is part of a year-long process to develop a plan for the area that provides new recreational amenities and increases shoreline resiliency.
The Park District conducted an online survey in Spring 2021 to gather input from the public regarding priorities for the project. Based on responses from nearly 400 survey participants, three design concepts were developed that reflect community priorities and address shoreline adaptation strategies as sea levels rise.
Now, the Park District is soliciting feedback on these three design concepts via a second online survey as well as two on-site interactive pop-up events outside the Crab Cove Visitor Center. The feedback will be used to refine the design concepts into a preferred concept to be incorporated into the McKay Master Plan in Fall 2021.
