The Alameda County Transportation Commission and Caltrans are planning to start construction on the Oakland Alameda Access Project in summer 2025, which will provide a direct route to I-880, reduce freeway-bound traffic within heavily populated pedestrian neighborhoods like Chinatown, and construct safe and accessible bicycle and pedestrian facilities to improve the connectivity between Downtown Oakland, Chinatown, the Jack London District, and Alameda.

The City has been working with Alameda County, Caltrans, and the city of Oakland to identify ways to reduce construction impacts, including proposed single-lane closures of the Tube. Read more here: https://www.alamedactc.org/programs-projects/highway-improvement/oakland-alameda-access-project

The Alameda County Transportation Commission will host community meetings in early 2025 to discuss construction plans, schedules, and temporary traffic impacts. We will keep you updated and share information about these community meetings as soon as they are scheduled.

The community is also welcome to attend a Zoom meeting with the Alameda County Transportation Commission on Monday, December 2, from 11am-12noon to hear a project update, the overall schedule, and the progress the County has made in reducing construction impacts: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/87577383728
