Roadway safety is everyone’s responsibility, and the Alameda Police Department wants to equip students with the critical skills to help kids confidently and safely arrive at school.
This year, members of APD will be hopping on bicycles and stopping by local homes to accompany children from their neighborhoods to the classroom. During this time, children will have the opportunity to get to know an APD officer while receiving guidance on safe walking/riding routes and habits:
- Use of crosswalk buttons.
- Increasing visibility while on a bicycle.
- How to safely cross marked and unmarked crosswalks.
- How to safely and lawfully navigate controlled and uncontrolled intersections.
- Looking at routes that minimize the number of streets your child must cross to reach their destination.
If you are interested in having your child participate, please complete the student registration form. Randomly selected households will be chosen every few weeks throughout the remainder of the school year. Selected children may invite additional classmates living in their neighborhood to join in on the fun. If you have any questions, please reach out to our COPPS Unit at mparker@alamedaca.gov.
