On Friday, August 7, 2020 at approximately 12:00 pm, the Alameda Police Department received multiple calls regarding a possible shooting in the 2300 block of Santa Clara Avenue. When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered multiple spent shell casings on the street and sidewalk. It was later determined that multiple individuals were involved in an altercation, which escalated into several rounds being fired from multiple firearms. It was later learned that one of the involved parties had self-transported to a nearby hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. An adult female who was in the area at the time of the shooting was struck by shrapnel. Her injuries were non-life threatening, and she declined medical treatment. As the investigation continued, Alameda Police Department personnel began working collaboratively with other law enforcement agencies, including the Alameda County Sherriff’s Office and the Oakland Police Department to investigate this shooting. Since the time of the incident, three juvenile suspects whom we believe fired weapons during the crime have been safely arrested. Firearms, including high-capacity magazines, were recovered during two of the three arrests. However, it is still too early in the investigation to conclude with certainty that the firearms recovered were the same weapons used in this audaciously flagrant crime. Additional victims of the shooting have been identified. One such victim was a mother who was driving by during the incident, and her vehicle was struck by a bullet. That bullet narrowly missed her two-year-old child and lodged in her driver’s seat. Gratefully, she and her child were not injured. If we gain additional, pertinent, and releasable information, updates will be provided.
