Alameda comes together to slow the spread of COVID-19

The City of Alameda continues to monitor the COVID-19 outbreak and is taking actions to slow the spread. As things are changing daily, we will continue post updates at www.alamedaca.gov/alerts. Today, we want to thank the Alameda community for coming together during this challenging and uncertain time. Many of you have reached out to ask what you can do to help. Here are a few ways to support our community.

Support local businesses! You can do this locally or buy a gift card now that you can use later.

Volunteer for the Alameda Food Bank! The Food Bank is putting a drive through distribution system in place, where clients pull up in their cars and volunteers deliver a pre-packaged bag of food. They will need additional help in the weeks to come. For now, email your contact information and availability to volunteer@alamedafoodbank.org and they will be back in touch soon with next steps.

Donate to the Food Bank! The Alameda Food Bank is currently limiting food donations to reduce person to person contact, and are instead encouraging donations by check and cash. You can donate online at www.alamedafoodbank.org.

Participate in Building Futures’ Donation Drive! Building Futures provides emergency shelter, services, and housing to individuals and families in Alameda who are transitioning out of homelessness and domestic violence by providing essential items. They are seeking donations of hard-to-find items including facemasks, antibacterial wipes, hand sanitizer, disinfectant spray, tissues, latex gloves, canned food, instant soup, instant oatmeal, granola bars, and protein bars. Drop off or mail items to Building Futures (open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) at 1395 Bancroft Avenue, San Leandro, CA, 94577.

Thank you Alameda Municipal Power! Alameda Municipal Power (AMP), our City-owned electric utility, is suspending service disconnections for non-payment, effective immediately. This suspension applies to residential and commercial customers and will remain in effect until further notice.
