COVID-19 Alameda Update

The State’s electronic data systems for reporting COVID-19 case numbers and test results are experiencing technological issues. That means that Alameda County’s trends (including trends for the City of Alameda) for cases, testing, and positivity rates are unstable at this time due to incomplete reporting.

As of this afternoon, there are 205 reported cases of COVID-19 in the City of AlamedaAlameda County reported 13,078 cases with 167 current hospitalizations and 205 deaths. The State of California reported 554,160 cases and 10,293 deaths. The United States has more than 5 million reported cases and we have had 162,751 deaths. Across the world we are about to reach 20 million reported cases and there have been 728,245 deaths from COVID-19.

The United States has 26% of the world’s COVID-19 cases and is 4.2% of the world’s population.

Alameda County Reopening Update

Alameda County remains on the State’s Monitoring List because we have had more than 100 cases per 100,000 people over 14 days. Until the technological issues are resolved and we have an accurate reporting of COVID-19 cases, the State will not be moving counties on or off the Monitoring List. Alameda County has been on the Monitoring List since July 12, which subjects the County to statewide restrictions on reopening various sectors and schools.

The County remained paused in its plans for reopening, which means that no changes have been made, and no new sectors, including outdoor salons, are allowed to reopen at this time.

This week, the County released a new website that houses the latest information on COVID-19 here and a new dashboard with streamlined information about County data here.

Masks are Mandatory

Face coverings are required in public per the County’s health order. There are a few exceptions, for example, when you are outside alone. However, you still need to have a face covering visible and immediately ready to cover your nose and mouth when you see other people.

Segment of Webster Street Reduced to 2-Lanes

Late Thursday night, the City reconfigured and restriped Webster Street from Taylor to Lincoln to allow more space for people to safely shop and dine (similar to what was done on Park Street in early July). In addition to wearing a face covering, using at least 6 feet of social/physical distance is critical to slowing the spread, as the virus is transmitted mainly among people who are in close contact for a prolonged period. Please slow down and yield to people physical distancing!
