Alameda Stands UAH

As our community mourns the senseless death of George Floyd, it is important to remember that the COVID-19 pandemic presents special health concerns for in-person protests. Please stay safe, and wear face coverings at all times to help protect against the widespread transmission of COVID-19.

As of this afternoon, there are 50 cases of COVID-19 in the City of Alameda. Alameda County has 3,390 cases, 105 hospitalizations, and 96 deaths. The State of California has 110,583 cases and 4,218 deaths. The United States leads the world in cases and deaths with 1,780,897 cases and 104,115 deaths. And globally, there are 6,120,740 cases and 371,041 deaths.

Alameda County’s Health Order

Alameda County has the highest rate of COVID-19 case increases in the Bay Area, alongside a large increase in hospitalized cases. The current Shelter In Place health order no longer has an end date, and remains in effect until changed.

As the County makes plans to move forward into Phase 2 of reopening, they continue to monitor a set of indicators following each modification to decide on next steps. That’s because COVID-19 is highly contagious and has a two to three-week incubation period. In the coming weeks, the County plans to release new guidance and opening timelines for moderate risk activities, including:

  • Summer camps and child care
  • Outdoor museums
  • Outdoor restaurant dining
  • Religious services
  • Safe ways to expand household social connections
  • Additional outdoor activities (outdoor fitness classes)

Higher risk settings where people are in close contact, like hair salons and barber shops, gyms, bars, and indoor museums, will be considered at a later date.

The following types of activities are permitted under the current health order: essential businesses, outdoor businesses and activities, curbside and delivery retail, and outdoor vehicle-based gatherings.

Alameda Strong

The Alameda City Council approved $600,000 for grants to Alameda’s small businesses who have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. But so many more local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and residential renters still need help. This week we launched the Alameda Strong community fund, that will help fund emergency relief grants. Please make your tax-deductible donation today to help our community recover.
