The State of California has 136,191 cases and 4,776 deaths (on May 31 we had 110,583 cases and 4,218 deaths). The United States continues to lead the world in cases and deaths with 1,996,160 cases and 112,726 deaths (on May 31 we had 1,780,897 cases and 104,115 deaths). Across the world, there are currently 7,313,661 cases and 413,854 deaths (an increase of more than 1 million cases and 40,000 deaths since May 31, when we had 6,120,740 cases and 371,041 deaths).

Updated Alameda County Health Orders

On Monday, June 8, updated health orders went into effect for Alameda County. The new health order now allows “social bubbles,” small gatherings of individuals from different households/living units to take place in outdoor spaces, subject to certain conditions. For example, one household can create a social bubble with a few other households (no more than 12 individuals in total), and that bubble can get together for outdoor social or other events.

To ensure contact tracing remains effective, no person may be a member of more than 1 social bubble during any 3 week period, and members of a social bubble are strongly encouraged to comply with social/physical distancing and wear face coverings.

The new health order requires wearing face coverings at all times when outside your home if you will be within 30 feet of others, including while walking, biking, and exercising.

The health order extends childcare and camps for all children, not just children of essential workers, with no more than 12 individuals in a group.

Finally, some businesses with limited person to person contact are allowed to resume, for example appliance repair and pet grooming services. The County published a timeline for reopening additional businesses in 2-4 week intervals. The next stage could include outdoor retail, dining, fitness, and pools. A later stage could include indoor retail, dining, salons, and barber shops.

Street Sweeping & Parking Enforcement

To help keep our streets clean from debris and safe for all modes of travel, this Monday, June 15, the City will resume our regular street sweeping according to our posted street sweeping schedules. For those continuing to telework and/or who can be home to slow the spread of COVID-19, please park vehicles in driveways or other off-street parking when possible. For the last two months, the Alameda Police Department did not issue parking violations for vehicles parked on the street during posted street sweeping times. However, as the shelter in place restrictions loosen, we will begin enforcement of street sweeping zone violations with a courtesy notice to violators for the first two weeks. Then beginning on Wednesday, June 29, tickets will be issued to those in violation of posted street sweeping signs. Resumption of enforcement is necessary to ensure the sweeper can actually reach the curb to clean the streets.
