COVID-19 Alameda Update: March 7, 2021
Published on March 07, 2021
California has administered more than 10 million vaccines. Here in Alameda, 29% of residents 16 and older have received their first shot and almost 11% are fully vaccinated. Vaccine supply is increasing, but remains limited. Please be patient and register to be notified when it's your turn. Soon everyone will have the opportunity to get the vaccine.
Alameda County is currently vaccinating people 65 and older, and people in Phase 1A and 1B, which includes healthcare workers and those at risk of exposure at work in the following sectors: food and agriculture, education and childcare, and emergency services.
Starting March 15, State eligibility for vaccines will expand to include people over 16 with certain underlying health conditions. Priority for future rounds of vaccine will be based on age.
When you are eligible, vaccines are being distributed through many channels:
- Contact your healthcare provider to see if they have appointments available.
- Check eligibility and schedule a vaccine at State mass vaccination sites, including the Coliseum, at myturn.ca.gov or call 833-422-4255.
- Alameda County is scheduling appointments at the Fairgrounds in Pleasanton.
- Retail pharmacies are currently scheduling vaccines.
- Sign up to be notified by the County when it's your turn.

For more information about vaccines, including updates each week on where there may be appointments available, visit www.alamedaca.gov/vaccine.
When you are eligible, the Alameda County Health Care Services Agency encourages all residents to get vaccinated with the first vaccine available to you. Any of the COVID-19 vaccines will help protect your health and decrease your risk of developing severe complications due to COVID-19, including hospitalization and death.

Alameda County is in the most restrictive Purple Tier of the State's Blueprint for a Safer Economy. The County reported that if our case numbers and test positivity rate continue to remain steady or improve, we will be able to move into the Red Tier next week.
|
Moving into the Red Tier means that additional activities would be allowed to open in limited capacity, including indoor dining, movies, gyms and fitness centers, retail stores, and museums.
Our declining cases have started to plateau, so be sure to always wear a mask, stay at least 6 feet apart, and avoid gatherings, even after you have been vaccinated.

While trends are looking favorable, COVID-19 recovery is far from over. The virus is still widespread, with several cases of the UK and South African variant detected in our county.
This week one year ago, we were learning that an Alameda firefighter was among the first people in our region to test positive for COVID-19. It is sobering to be here a year later, with 2,227 cases and 87 deaths in the City of Alameda.
In Alameda County, there have been 81,255 cases and 1,289 deaths. Statewide, we are approaching 3.5 million cases and 54,124 deaths. In the U.S. we have had almost 29 million cases and 524,997 deaths. And worldwide, there have been more than 116 million cases and more than 2.5 million deaths. Our hearts go out to the families and loved ones of everyone lost to this pandemic and our continued gratitude goes out to everyone on the front lines.
