COVID-19 Alameda Update: September 21, 2021

COVID-19 Dashboard
Cases are starting to come down from the summer surge. Alameda County's community transmission rate was recently lowered to the "substantial" level by the CDC, however, case rates for vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals remain in what was formerly considered the State's purple tier. Here's a quick look at the numbers from the City's online COVID-19 dashboard:
- 3,328 — Alameda’s total number of COVID-19 cases to date from a population of about 80,000;
- 39 — total number of COVID-19 cases in the Alameda Unified School District since school started from a population of about 9,600;
- 96 — total number of Alameda residents who have died from COVID-19;
- 93.6% — percentage of Alameda's population 12 and older who have received at least their first dose of the vaccine;
- 81% — percentage of Alameda's population 12 and older who are fully vaccinated;
- 11.7 — COVID-19 average daily cases per 100,000 in Alameda County.

Alameda County is evaluating policies requiring vaccine verification at bars and restaurants. To protect the safety of staff and guests, some Alameda bars and restaurants are requiring vaccines to dine indoors, including the Alameda Comedy Club (which was the first Alameda business to require proof of vaccination), American Oak, Burma Superstar, Fireside Lounge, Town Tavern, and Wally’s Corner.
If you’re required to show proof of vaccination, you can show your physical vaccine card or pull up a copy of your digital vaccine record at myvaccinerecord.cdph.ca.gov. If your digital vaccine record is not correct, the My Turn Virtual Assistant at chat.myturn.ca.govcan help, but please note that it may take a few weeks before your record is updated.

Masks slow the spread of COVID-19 and protect our community from transmission.
Wear masks indoors! Bay Area health orders require everyone age 2 or older to wear a mask indoors in public settings and businesses, regardless of vaccination status. Wearing a mask is also strongly encouraged in nonpublic indoor settings, such as a private residence if you are with people who are not in your household.
Wear masks outdoors! Masks are also recommended in crowded settings outdoors.
Wear masks at school! On school grounds, the Alameda Unified School District requires masks to be worn at all times, indoors and outdoors, unless eating or drinking or on an approved outdoor mask-wearing break.
As of Thursday, September 7, all three Alameda Free Library locations resumed their full service hours. The community will once again have access to in-person services such as holds pickup at branches, access to study rooms, computer drop-in assistance and courses, in-person programs for adults and teens, and limited children's in-person programming.
Getting vaccinated protects against severe illness from COVID-19, including the Delta variant. If you are unvaccinated or did not receive your second dose, please make an appointment or find a drop-in site.
The CDC now recommends a third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for people who are immunocompromised. The CDC and FDA have not yet recommended additional doses or booster shots for any other population at this time. The city will post updates as soon as more information is available.
Getting tested for COVID-19 is free, and while there are currently no testing sites in the city of Alameda (stay tuned for updates), there are several sites very close by. Find testing resources atalamedaca.gov/gettested.

The City is seeking volunteers to spend 10 minutes completing an online study called a treejack, where you’ll answer a few questions that will help us better organize content on the City’s website. Please send an email to shenry@alamedaca.gov if you might be able to help, and we will send you a link!
The City of Alameda and Alameda County use an online tool called AC Alert to notify community members about an emergency, police activity, significant road closures, and traffic alerts. Sign up to receive alerts by text message, email and phone at acgov.org/emergencysite.
