In June 2026, the City completed the resurfacing portion of Phase 43 of our Pavement Management Project. About 40% of this project utilized a treatment called cape seal, where rubber chips were applied to the roadway surface and then coated with a slurry seal. The rubber chips were manufactured from recycled rubber tires that originated and were processed in California. Through this project, 6,577 waste tires were diverted from the waste stream and converted into rubber chips. A full list of project streets and treatments can be found here:

The chip seal portion of this project was funded in part by the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Rubberized Pavement Grant Program from CalRecycle.
