The City of Alameda is excited to announce the appointment of Linda Mumma as the City’s new Communications Manager. An award-winning communications professional and former journalist, Mumma brings more than 20 years of experience in journalism and public-sector communications.

Alameda City Manager Gerry Beaudin stated, “I am pleased to welcome Linda to the City of Alameda. Her extensive communications experience, coupled with her passion for public service, will allow Linda to have an immediate positive impact on our ability to inform, engage, and connect with our community.”

As Communications Manager, Mumma will lead the City’s communications efforts, overseeing strategic messaging, media relations, social media, and community storytelling. She will work collaboratively with City leadership, staff, community stakeholders, and residents to strengthen connections and ensure information is clear, timely, and meaningful.

Most recently, Mumma served as Director of Communications for Modesto City Schools, where she led media relations, crisis communications, and social media for a district serving approximately 30,000 students across 34 schools.

Before joining Modesto City Schools, Mumma held communications roles at the state and county levels. At CalRecycle, she served as the lead communicator for the implementation of Senate Bill 1383, one of California’s most significant changes to its recycling and organic waste system. She also managed media relations for the California Department of Cannabis Control and worked in emergency communications with the Stanislaus County Office of Emergency Services, including serving in the Joint Information Center during the COVID-19 response.

Prior to transitioning into public-sector communications, Mumma spent 17 years in television journalism, including serving as a Bureau Chief for KCRA, an NBC affiliate in the Sacramento area. Her journalism career included covering issues affecting communities throughout California.

Some of Mumma’s earliest professional experiences included an internship at KTVU and work with the Oakland A’s Diamond Vision Productions. Born in Oakland and raised in the East Bay, Mumma considers joining the City of Alameda a homecoming.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the City of Alameda and return to the East Bay, where both my personal and professional story began,” said Mumma. “Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about taking complex information and making it clear, accessible, and meaningful to the people we serve. I’m looking forward to working with City leadership, staff, businesses, and the community to strengthen connections with residents and help tell the stories that make Alameda such a special place to live and work.”

Mumma earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts from San Francisco State University and a Master of Science degree in Communications, with a specialization in Public Relations, from Syracuse University. She is also pursuing her Accreditation in Public Relations (APR).

The City of Alameda welcomes Linda Mumma and looks forward to the experience and energy she will bring to the Alameda community.
