City of Alameda announces appointment of Lisa Maxwell as Community Development Director
Following an extensive recruitment, Alameda City Manager Eric Levitt has appointed Lisa Maxwell as the Community Development Director. Lisa has been serving as the Interim Community Development Director since December, and has been instrumental in supporting and directing department operations.
Since joining the City in 2018 as an Assistant City Attorney, Lisa has worked closely with the Community Development Department providing legal advice and support on significant projects, including the redevelopment of Alameda Point and working with our unhoused community. During that time she became very familiar with the Department. Prior to joining the City, Lisa worked for both the City of Oakland and in private practice as an attorney.
“I am very pleased to announce Lisa Maxwell’s appointment as the City’s Community Development Director,” stated City Manager Eric Levitt. “I’m confident that Lisa’s experience, leadership, and dedication to the community will make her a perfect fit for this position.”
“I have loved being a part of this wonderful Alameda community for almost 25 years, and I look forward to giving back to the community and being part of this meaningful work,” remarked Community Development Director Lisa Maxwell.
The Community Development Department is responsible for implementing the City Council’s goals for an economically diverse and financially sustainable community, and fulfilling the community’s plans to revitalize Alameda Point into a mixed-use, transit-oriented development. The Department seeks a balance between business development, retention, and maximizing City real estate assets and providing housing opportunities for all income levels, including the City’s unsheltered residents. The Department is comprised of four divisions: Base Reuse, Economic Development and Community Services, Housing, and Asset Management.
