Last night, May 31 to June 1, several cities in the East Bay saw a significant number of criminal acts unrelated to peaceful protest, including Alameda.

In that same timeframe, the Alameda Police Department responded to 13 calls for service related to vandalism, burglary, attempted burglary, and looting that yielded seven arrests. Of the arrested parties, four were Alameda residents, two Oakland residents, and one East Palo Alto resident. All incidents occurred in varying locations throughout the City.

At this time, the Alameda Police Department has implemented contingency plans to address the evolving situations, including initiating mobile field units and increased visibility. We are dedicated to the protection of life and property while providing a safe environment for our community members to peacefully assemble and express themselves.

As a reminder, the City of Alameda has imposed a curfew tonight, June 1, and tomorrow, June 2, from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Additionally, the County of Alameda issued a similar curfew extending to June 5. As events unfold, the City will continue to advise on curfew changes using AC Alerts, the City’s website, and social media channels.
