Subject: Assault with a Deadly Weapon / Hate Crime
On October 27, 2020 at 7:35 p.m., the Alameda Police Department responded to a call reporting an assault with a deadly weapon that occurred in the 2000 block of Shoreline Drive. The adult male victim reported he and an adult male suspect had a verbal argument. During the subsequent altercation, the suspect made racially biased statements and attempted to strike the victim with an object. The victim was not struck and the suspect fled the location of the initial assault. A short time later, the victim observed the suspect walking toward him with a weapon. The victim fled and was not injured.
In an attempt to locate the suspect and protect the safety of the community, a perimeter was quickly established by APD. A City of Alameda AC alert was activated at 9:00 p.m. to announce a Road Closure, 1900-2000 Shoreline Dr. The road was re-opened at 9:47 p.m.
The Alameda Police Department made contact with the suspect and was able to take him into custody without incident. At this time, no further information will be provided as the case is still under investigation.
