Public Safety Significant Incident Report

At 3am this morning, an Alameda Police Officer was responding to a call for service of an in-progress theft at Alameda Point when they observed a vehicle in the area leaving with its lights off. Moments later, the officer observed the driver lose control of the vehicle and enter the water near Seaplane Lagoon. The Alameda Fire Department deployed rescue swimmers who removed the individual from the water and transferred them to the local trauma center with life-threatening injuries. The Fire Department conducted a comprehensive search of the area and no one else was found in the water. An investigation of the incident is ongoing and no additional information can be released at this time.
