Public Comment Period for Citywide Walking and Biking Proposals

Published on August 13, 2020

This Sunday is the final day to give input on walking and biking draft recommendations for Alameda, as part of the Alameda Active Transportation Plan. This plan will guide the creation of safe and comfortable places for people to walk, bike, and roll in Alameda for the next 10 years. The City is looking for community feedback on a draft citywide bicycle network; pedestrian infrastructure recommendations; draft concept plans for Park Street, Webster Street and Lincoln Avenue; and proposed policies and programs to advance walking and biking in Alameda.

The City began taking public feedback on July 15 when it launched web surveys on all recommendations plus an interactive bicycle network map. Its Active Transportation Plan Virtual Open House attracted over 60 participants on July 29, and a recording of the Open House is available online. In addition, staff held five public listening sessions, brought the proposals to four City commissions, and is presenting to groups such as the Alameda Point Collaborative and Alameda’s business associations.

“We will use this community feedback to update the proposals and create the draft Alameda Active Transportation Plan,” said Rochelle Wheeler, the City’s Senior Transportation Coordinator who is leading the project. “We want to hear from as many people as possible.”

A full draft Alameda Active Transportation Plan will be released in early 2021 and be brought to Council for adoption in spring 2021.
