To help Alameda residents prepare for storm season, the City’s Public Works Department will provide up to five free sandbags per residence. Sandbags can be retrieved anytime starting November 1, 2020, from a self-serve sandbag station in the courtyard behind City Hall West at 950 W Mall Square. If assistance loading sandbags is needed, staff will be available Mondays and Fridays, from 12-1 pm, during the month of November and on Saturday, November 21, from 8 am to 12 noon at a sandbag station at Lexington St and W Tower Ave. Please note that if it is storming, staff may not be available for assistance, as they are out tending to storm-related service requests from the public, Alameda Police, and other agencies.
By working together, Alameda residents and the City of Alameda can help lessen the impacts of storms this season. More tips on storm preparedness can be found at: https://www.alamedaca.gov/storms.
If you have questions about how to retrieve sandbags, please call 510-747-7900 between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm. Please remember to wear a mask when you leave your home and when visiting the City’s sandbag stations.
