Earlier today, a Menorah and other symbols of the winter holidays display in front of Alameda’s City Hall were found damaged. The vandalism to the Menorah was particularly abhorrent to our Jewish community members, some of whom are children of Holocaust survivors. We stand together with our Jewish community members and understand the impact this senseless act has had during this special time of the year. The City of Alameda condemns anti-Semitism. Intolerance and bigotry have no place in our community where we celebrate and honor the rich diversity of our multi-cultural community and the traditions of all community members.
The Alameda Police Department continues to investigate this incident. Anyone with information can contact APD’s non-emergency number at 510.337.8340.
