After receiving complaints from residents regarding the sale of tobacco products and e-cigarettes to persons younger than 21 years of age, members of the Alameda Police Department conducted a sting operation. During this operation, an undercover person under the age of 21 went into several local businesses with the intent of purchasing tobacco-related products. While many businesses were in compliance, some were not and were issued citations.

We hope this serves as a reminder that it is illegal to sell or provide cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21. Don’t forget, proof of age is required when making these transactions. Selling alcohol or tobacco to a minor is not only illegal, but it is irresponsible and harmful to the well-being of our youth. We hope to find all local businesses in compliance during our next operation.
