Public Art Small Grants Pilot Program

The Public Art Small Grants Pilot Program is a new funding opportunity for cultural events or physical art installations in Alameda. This program will provide small grants ranging from $500 to $2,000. All events and installations must be located in the City of Alameda, in an accessible location, and free to the public.

Program Application and Description

Applications were accepted from January 2, 2020 to February 29, 2020.

  • ARTPUSH Summer Art Fair: Pianista Katy Stephan - performance at the Annual Alameda Summer Art Fair & Maker Market. 
  • ARTPUSH Summer Art Fair: Jazz Trio - performance at the Annual Alameda Summer Art Fair & Maker Market. 
  • ARTPUSH Summer Art Fair: Performance Artist Ariyana - performance at the Annual Alameda Summer Art Fair & Maker Market. 
  • ARTPUSH Summer Art Fair: Circus Performance Artist Bri - performance at the Annual Alameda Summer Art Fair & Maker Market. 
  • ARTPUSH Summer Art Fair: Band - Ukemamas - performance at the Annual Alameda Summer Art Fair & Maker Market. 
  • ARTPUSH Summer Art Fair: Band - Hannah & Handsomes - performance at the Annual Alameda Summer Art Fair & Maker Market. 
  • Porchfest Alameda: West End Edition 2020 - free community music event showcasing local musicians. 
  • Words that Made the Difference: Brown vs. Board of Education - two performances at City Hall of play about the landmark desegregation law; written by Alamedan playwright.
  • College of Alameda FabLab Mural - mural depicting future of a diverse Alameda workforce. 
  • Frank Bette Center Plein air Paintout (PAPO) Funding for band and artist demos at the 15th annual public event featuring forty emerging and established artists painting Alameda scenes outdoors. 
  • Webster Street Mural - seed money for mural on wall of Otaez Restaurant.
  • The Butterfly Effect/Migration is Beautiful - youth led project of butterfly mural at Wood Middle School symbolizing migration and ending detention.
  • Rhythmix Island City Waterways 2020 Art Walks - eleven site-specific community performances based on history & diversity of Alameda. 
  • Rooted in Alameda Public History Project - oral history, photography, multimedia events, and presentations on African Americans in Alameda.
  • Natural Discourse at Alameda Point - evening walking exhibit of large video projections on buildings and screens at Alameda Naval Air Station. 
  • Alameda--Haunt Your House! 2020 - citywide Halloween house decorating contest and canned food drive in support of Alameda Food Bank. 

Program Orientation and Questions

A Program Overview and Q&A session was held on January 15, 2020, at 7pm in City Council Chambers (Alameda City Hall, 2263 Santa Clara Avenue, 3rd Floor).
