Aquatic Interns

SUMMER AQUATIC INTERN

12-15 year-olds, 7th - 10th grade

The Aquatic Intern Program is designed for youth (12-15 years of age) interested in becoming lifeguards and Water Safety Instructors (WSI) but still, need to meet the minimum age requirements. This program will help prepare participants to apply for and work as professional lifeguards and WSI once they meet the age requirement. All participants will help to protect the lives and well-being of each person using the pool and to teach swim lessons at our facilities.

Critical Skills/ Expertise Needed:

  • Be Familiar With: (but not limited to)

    • Basic Operation of a pool

    • Safety concerns in and around the pool

  • Ability To: (but not limited to)

    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing

    • Maintain a SAFE work environment 

    • Swim at least a Red Cross Level 4 Standard

  • Must be energetic and enthusiastic about working with children

  • Demonstrate maturity and professionalism.

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Be able to work outdoors as well as able to stand for at least 1 hour.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be 12 - 15 years old of age.

  • Must have a 2.5 GPA or higher.

  • Be able to swim at a Red Cross Level 4 standard or above (pass the swim assessment test).

  • Unofficial Transcript

  • Letter of Recommendation(s): 

    • REQUIRED: ONE (1) recommendation from a personal (ex. parent, sibling, friend) or professional (ex. Teacher, coach, office admin) reference

    • OPTIONAL: Another letter of recommendation from a professional reference. 

  • A resume of leadership experiences, club/organization memberships (ex., Book clubs, science clubs, archery clubs, band clubs, sorority/fraternity youth auxiliary clubs, etc.), sports (ex., Basketball, cheerleading, etc.), etc.

  • A cover letter explaining the following:

  1. Why you should be chosen for this program and

  2. What you hope to learn from this opportunity
