Group Tennis Lessons

ARPD PROGRAMS FOLLOW ALL STATE AND COUNTY HEALTH PROTOCOLS

The Alameda Recreation and Park Department is offering Youth and Adult Group Tennis Lessons to the public.  Whether you have little or no previous tennis instruction or are looking to build upon established skill, our coaches focus on teaching and improving fundamentals through fun and informative sessions.

Please Note:  Choosing to miss a class will NOT result in reimbursement.

2024 Youth Group Tennis Lessons

YOUTH GROUP LESSONS (AGES 6 to 14 YEARS):
Lessons will be held at the tennis courts at Krusi Park (3001 Otis Drive, Alameda) on Saturdays only.

  • Students will be introduced to the fundamentals of the game, covering ground-stroke, volley, and serve techniques, alongside basic movement and court positioning.

  • The class consists of a combination of drills and games alongside basic fitness exercises to provide a well-rounded session that keeps learning tennis fun.

  • We strongly encourage participants to bring their own racket.  Please wear comfortable athletic shoes.

2024 Adult Tennis Lessons

ADULT GROUP LESSONS - AGES 18+

Lessons will be held Monday through Thursday at the tennis courts at Krusi Park (3001 Otis Drive, Alameda).  

BEGINNERS:
This class is for students with little or no previous tennis instruction.  Begin your lifetime love of the game here in a fun and encouraging environment.  Students will be introduced to the basic skills needed to play:  forehand, backhand, serve, and rules of the game.  Coaches make learning fun through group games and point simulations.

ADVANCED BEGINNERS:
This class is for students with 1-2 sessions of beginning tennis.  The Advanced Beginning level offers an opportunity to build upon their skills.  We will focus on adding more movement to ground strokes, improving serving technique and developing basic control of the ball in terms of left and right placement.  Players will engage in fun and challenging point play simulations, while also being introduced to volleys, net play, and basic doubles strategies.
