Posted February 19, 2026 - The Trail Connectors from Business Park, 8th Street & Wood Street Neighborhoods to Jean Sweeney Open Space Park will start on Monday, February 23, 2026. Total project expected to last a few months.

Established in 2018

Jean Sweeney Open Space Park is located at 1925 Sherman Street (bordered by Constitution Way, Atlantic Avenue and Sherman Street). It is located on the former Alameda Beltline Railroad property that was secured by the City at its original purchase price due to the advocacy efforts of local resident, Jean Sweeney.

The Jean Sweeney Open Space Fund is a non-profit organization that provides funding assistance to the Alameda Recreation and Park Department for the park. More information and history of the park development can be found on their website:
