City of Alameda Requests Input on Park and Webster Street changes, including Parklets
The City invites the public to provide feedback on the Commercial Streets Program to help the City decide what’s next for these streets, which were transformed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. A virtual Town Hall is scheduled for July 13 and tabling events will take place on July 17. An online survey is available through Sunday, July 18. The survey, event details, and more about the program are at: www.AlamedaCA.gov/CommercialStreets.
Beginning in April 2020, the City designed and implemented multiple efforts to support our businesses and the community through the pandemic. Collectively, these efforts make up the Commercial Streets program:
-
Park and Webster Streets restriping with fewer travel lanes, pedestrian bulbouts and room for parklets
-
Parklets
-
Sidewalk dining
-
Short-term parking for pick-up/drop-off
-
Alameda Ave closure for outdoor dining
-
Dining and retail allowed in private parking areas
The City Council approved these changes through the end of October 2021. City staff are now comprehensively evaluating the impacts of the changes, including soliciting input from residents, employees and visitors. The community can share their opinions via the online survey, which has already received over 1000 responses, or by attending an upcoming event. The survey will close at the end of Sunday, July 18.
The City’s Transportation Commission will hear staff’s recommendations for next steps and make their recommendation to the City Council at their July 28 meeting. The Council will consider the item in September.
